We are seeking a Data Science and AI Intern to join our team for a hands-on, high-impact experience from mid-May through the end of the summer. Interns at XPO are embedded in real project work, paired with experienced mentors, and given exposure to cutting-edge initiatives across our data science and technology organization.

 

This is an exciting opportunity for students who want to sharpen their technical skills while solving complex problems in an innovative, fast-paced environment.

 

This role is largely in-person and includes training and development through XPO’s official internship program.

Compensation: This will be a paid, hourly position.

 

Duration : 12-weeks (mid-May through August)

 

What you’ll need to succeed as a Data Science Intern at XPO
Minimum qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent and currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree
  • 2 or more years of relevant undergraduate coursework

Preferred qualifications:

  • Education toward a degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience programming in Python and working with data-driven libraries (Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, etc.)
  • Familiarity with SQL and relational databases
  • Coursework or project experience in machine learning, predictive modeling, or statistical analysis
  • Exposure to modern AI techniques, including deep learning or large language models (LLMs) isa plus
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Energetic work style with a strong drive to learn and contribute
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical findings to varied audiences

 

About the Data Science Intern job
What you’ll do on a typical day:

  • Partner closely with a dedicated mentor and collaborate with experienced data scientists across the organization
  • Analyze large, complex datasets to uncover trends, patterns, and actionable insights
  • Develop and evaluate predictive models using machine learning techniques
  • Communicate results and recommendations to technical and business stakeholders through presentations, reports and visualizations
  • Work directly with cross-functional business partners to interpret results, iterate on findings and deliver impactful solutions
  • Gain exposure to innovative applications of AI
