Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical/Electrical Technician to join our growing technical team. The primary focus of this role will be supporting our research and development efforts through mechanical fabrication, electrical assembly, and equipment maintenance. As a key member of our team, you will contribute significantly to our work in advanced materials, particularly High Tc superconductors and flexible batteries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Machine parts to precise specifications using lathes, mills, grinders, and other machine shop equipment
  • Assemble, troubleshoot, and repair electrical components and testing equipment
  • Assist in fabrication of multifilamentary superconducting wires
  • Fabricate wire and prototypes according to engineering specifications
  • Assist in the design and construction of specialized testing apparatus
  • Maintain, calibrate, and repair laboratory equipment including mixers, coaters, and measurement devices
  • Install and configure electrical control systems for research equipment
  • Perform precise measurements using various instruments including micrometers, vernier calipers, and electrical testing equipment
  • Execute preventative maintenance according to manufacturer’s guidelines
  • Assist in sourcing economical vendors for mechanical and electrical components
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues with research equipment
  • Adhere to strict safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work environment

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or Associate Degree with relevant experience, or BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with demonstrated experience using machine tools
  • Experience with electrical systems, basic circuitry, and electrical troubleshooting
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings and electrical schematics
  • Experience with preventative maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment
  • Knowledge of safety standards for mechanical and electrical work
  • Experience with prototype fabrication and assembly is highly desirable
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to maintain accurate records
